Email received from SOS BISCATHORPE to highlight new consultation
There is a new public consultation regarding Egdon Resources' plans to drill for oil at Biscathorpe over the next 15 years.
SEE COPY OF NOTIFICATION FROM LCC BELOW
The timeframe for the public consultation is 30 days, closing on the 12th February.
LCC have stated that previous comments on the application will be considered by the new Inspector, but we believe it would be prudent to re-state your position, especially as issues relating to climate change and the need to protect our countryside are becoming increasingly urgent.
Last summer SOS Biscathorpe (represented by Mathilda Dennis) successfully won a legal challenge against this development at the High Court which found that the development was unlawful because Scope 3 emissions had not been taken into account - those are the emissions that arise when the extracted oil is inevitably burned. In another similar case, the Supreme Court judges had ruled that Scope 3 emissions and their impact on climate change are to be regarded as a material concern. They also stressed the importance of public participation in decisions relating to climate change. Following our win at the High Court, the Appeal is now going to be re-determined and this time those Scope 3 emissions will be considered.
We hope we can once again rely on your support.
