Email with further information....
Good morning
We are pleased to confirm that preparations remain on track for weekly food waste collections to begin across East Lindsey from the week commencing Monday 19 October.
Over the next couple of weeks, all households across the district will receive an information pack through the post containing:
- A welcome letter introducing the new food waste service
- A new waste and recycling collection calendar (on reverse of letter)
- An updated Right Thing, Right Bin leaflet, providing a visual guide to what should go in each container
An important message we would appreciate parish and town councillors helping us to share is for residents to check their new collection calendar carefully when it arrives. Please do not share calendars as these are property specific.
As part of preparations for the introduction of food waste collections, the council has undertaken a full review of its waste and recycling collection rounds. As a result, some households may have a change to their usual collection day.
Residents should therefore follow the collection dates shown on their new calendar once it arrives and not assume their existing collection day will remain the same.
There are no changes to garden waste collections, and residents should continue to present their garden waste on their existing confirmed collection day.
Food waste caddies
The majority of households have already received their food waste caddy pack, containing a 5-litre indoor caddy, 23-litre outdoor caddy, instruction leaflet and an initial roll of liners.
Residents should keep their caddies safe and start using them during the week before their first food waste collection, as shown on their new collection calendar.
For properties using communal waste facilities, caddy deliveries will be made to communal areas before the new service begins, in line with the arrangements previously agreed.
If a household that should have received an individual caddy pack has not received one, residents can report at Report Food Caddy Issue - East Lindsey District Council.
Helping residents prepare
Food waste will be collected every week, alongside residents’ other scheduled waste or recycling collections. Residents should present their caddy next to their bin. Householders are encouraged to put their house number/name on the outdoor caddy, so it is easily identifiable.
The introduction of the service will allow residents to recycle food waste separately, including leftovers, plate scrapings, fruit and vegetable peelings, meat and fish, bones, dairy products, bread, rice and pasta, tea bags and coffee grounds.
Collected food waste will be taken for anaerobic digestion, where it will be recycled to produce renewable energy and fertiliser.
We would be grateful for the continued support of our parish and town councillors in helping us share these key messages with residents as we approach the launch.
