Communication received from East Lindsey District Council

Deliveries of new food waste recycling caddies will begin across East Lindsey from Monday 27 July.

Ahead of the launch of the district's new weekly food waste recycling service in October 2026, East Lindsey District Council will deliver food waste caddies to more than 74,000 households.

Each household will receive:

  • a small indoor food waste caddy
  • a larger outdoor food waste caddy
  • an initial roll of liners
  • an information guide explaining how to use the service

Caddies will be delivered to residents' doorsteps or placed within individual properties.

Residents are asked not to begin using the caddies until the week before collections start. Information about collection start dates will be shared closer to the launch of the service.

Residents living in blocks of flats, flats above shops and apartment buildings will be supported by a dedicated engagement officer, who will visit properties and work with residents and managing agents to assess the most suitable way for the new food waste collection service to operate.

Regular updates will also be available on the Council's website and social media channels.

The smaller indoor caddy should be emptied regularly into the larger outdoor caddy. Residents can line the indoor caddy using the supplied liners or everyday household items such as old bread bags, plastic shopping bags, newspaper or kitchen roll.

Both caddies can be washed when needed, and the indoor caddy is dishwasher safe up to 60°C.

Food waste collections are due to begin in October 2026 and will take place weekly on the same day as residents' usual black, grey or purple-lidded bin collection. Households should place their larger, orange-lidded outdoor caddy out alongside their normal bin by 5.30am.

Councillor Martin Foster, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: "All households will be provided with the containers and information needed to use the new food waste collection service.

"While the introduction of separate food waste collections is a national requirement, we welcome the opportunity to help residents recycle more and make better use of resources that would otherwise be thrown away.

"Separating food waste may be a new routine for many households, but it will play an important role in reducing the amount of general waste produced across the district and increasing recycling rates.

"Food waste will be collected every week on the same day as residents' existing waste and recycling collections. Collection crews will empty the food waste caddies into a dedicated compartment on the vehicle.

"Residents who currently receive an assisted collection service will automatically receive support with their food waste caddies as part of that arrangement."
